A shocking mini-series starring David Tennant that has been branded a ‘mind-f**k’ by fans is set to land on Netflix next month.

Deadwater Fell centres on family man and GP Tom (played by Tennant) who is struck by tragedy when his wife Kate and their three young children die in a house fire.

But when the wife’s pal Jess (Cush Jumbo) and her police officer partner Steve (Matthew McNulty) do some digging they begin to realise that all was not what it seemed with the picture-perfect family.

The four-part series originally aired on Channel 4 in 2020 but is set to land on Netflix next month.

Fans have rushed to X to heap praise on the suspenseful series, with one person saying: “I want to rewatch Deadwater Fell. For me, one of the best David Tennant roles. That character is creepy.”

Another said: “F**king HELL Deadwater Fell is THE BEST THING I’ve watched in a LONG time!”

While a third said: “Deadwater Fell Is possibly the best show I’ve watched all year. What a mind f**k.”

High praise indeed, eh?

For what it’s worth, Deadwater Fell holds an impressive 88 percent on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.5 on IMDb.

It was branded ‘the new Broadchurch but more irresistible’ by The Guardian, while The Independent said: "Deadwater Fell is gruelling, but it’s hard to take your eyes off it."

Deadwater Fell’s executive producer Emma Kingsman-Lloyd said she and writer Daisy Coulam were inspired by true crime series when working on the show.

She explained: "We’re both a little bit obsessed with true crime shows which is where the initial thought came from, because Daisy said that she wanted to write something that had the forensic detail of a true crime documentary show."

In particular the true crime documentary series The Staircase, which went on to become a drama series of the same name starring Colin Firth.

Coulam told the Radio Times she was particularly taken by the opening scene of the docu-series.

Coulam explained: "You’re going through a house and it’s all quiet and you go ‘this incredibly violent thing happened there’. That sort of stillness and the natural way that, even when they’re talking about dead people, it’s very matter of fact the way they talk about things. We just wanted to capture that sense really."

Deadwater Fell will be available to stream on Netflix from 7 February, but if you can’t wait that long you can check it out on My4 right now.
